Caramel apples

Caramel apples are a classic fall treat that beautifully blend the tartness of fresh apples with the sweetness of rich, gooey caramel.

Equipment

  • Double Boiler or Microwave-Safe Bowl: For melting the caramel.
  • Wooden Skewers or Popsicle Sticks: For holding the apples.
  • Baking Sheet: Lined with parchment paper for cooling the caramel apples.
  • Saucepan: If making homemade caramel.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 medium-sized apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 14 oz caramel candies or homemade caramel
  • 1 tablespoon water if using homemade caramel
  • Toppings: chopped nuts sprinkles, crushed cookies, or sea salt (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Wash and dry the apples, then insert wooden sticks into the tops.
  • Melt caramel in a double boiler or microwave until smooth.
  • Dip apples into caramel, swirling to coat.
  • Roll in toppings if desired and place on a lined baking sheet.
  • Allow to cool and set before serving.
